Say what you want about Research in Motion, but, you have to give them credit when it comes to providing users with options. In an iPhone world, Apple provides you with features and you either learn to like them or buy another product. That being said, I hope that Flash in the upcoming BlackBerry 6 browser will allow users to enable or disable the loading of Flash content. When I think of RIM’s focus on security as they design devices it would lead you to believe Flash will not only be an optional feature but off by default
Usually when we talk about a hardware manufacturer grabbing market share from Research in Motion, Apple and iPhone tend to be a big part of the conversation. This time, however, according to Piper Jaffray analyst T.
I have used the BlackBerry Browser on a regular basis and while it is not as functional as mobile Safari, or, functional at all depending on your point of view, it does allow you to accomplish specific tasks. I view the browser on the BlackBerry as utilitarian much like many other features on the device. RIM tends to build apps to solve problems, not necessarily in the most graceful way. I was reading an article on ARS Technica that made me think of how Robb describes the poor web browsing on a BlackBerry. Recent data from NetApplication shows mobile browser usage by operating system
Two months ago today Microsoft announced Windows Phone 7 , the all new Windows mobile operating system that will be a lot more like the Zune than it is the current version of Windows Mobile. Windows Phone 7 isn’t an upgrade, but, a completely new direction in mobile operating systems for Microsoft. Even though Windows Phone 7 isn’t due out until the latter part of this year, I know all this because, to put it mildly, Microsoft has been hyping Windows Phone 7 up beyond all belief… I’m not sure if RIM has noticed, but, a lot of BlackBerry users are dissatisfied with the BlackBerry, particularly the BlackBerry OS and its lack of general “coolness” when compared to… well… pretty much everything else. A real problem this year for RIM will be customer churn, as long-time, die-hard, BlackBerry fanatics that automatically update to the latest and greatest BlackBerry every couple of years, are increasingly looking at alternatives like the iPhone, Android, and even Windows Phone 7.
In episode #11 of the Simple Mobile Review Podcast we talk a little Windows Mobile 7 and the ridiculous things that it won’t do. 2 of 5 BlackBerry users want an iPhone as their next device… This can’t be good for RIM. Solid state hard drives are really cool, but, still really expensive… All this and more plus our favorite picks of the week. It was just last month that Fandango updated their BlackBerry application and today they have launched a Mobile Ticket program that goes by the same name which allows you to buy a ticket and have it delivered to your mobile device in the form of a mobile tag… err… a QR-code type 2D barcode. Instead of having to go to the ticket counter to pick up a paper ticket, simply whip out your mobile device and allow the ticket taker to scan it directly from your device. A special scanner is required to scan Mobile Ticket barcodes which is why Fandango has only rolled the service out to 8 cities from at the start. Fandango Mobile Ticket is available at the following locations: New York: City Cinemas 1, 2 & 3, Angelika Film Center, East 86th Street Cinemas, Village East Cinema, Beekman Theatre, The Paris Theatre.

Chris Ashley from Simple Mobile Review shares his thoughts on the upcoming Windows Phone 7 and the BlackBerry As I was watching all the news coming out of the Mobile World Congress about Windows Phone 7 I could not help but think about the rumors of Microsoft buying RIM . It would be hard and almost impossible to deny that a Blackberry is the most efficient messaging device on the market today. But, it suffers from many of the same problems of Windows Mobile.
Rumors about BlackBerry Application Suite for Windows Mobile have been floating around the interwebs for well over a year. Back in December of 2008 RIM got it running on an HTC Pro and they even demonstrated a few months later at Mobile World Congress.
