We heard rumors that Facebook for BlackBerry would get updated last week, however, it looks like we were a bit premature. That being said, Facebook for BlackBerry Smartphones 1.8.0.49 is now available to all in BlackBerry App World
There are rumors floating around that the release of Facebook for BlackBerry version 1.8 is imminent. The version on BlackBerry App World and at http://www.blackberry.com/facebook is still 1.6, however, the chatter about 1.8 being release very soon (possibly today) is picking up. If we hear anything, we will update this post

I just installed face2face , a cross platform, location aware, social networking client from Promimate Global that combines Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter networks into a single client as well as ads consolidated chat between face2face users, on my BlackBerry, and, although I’ve only played around with it for about 5 minutes, it seems to be a pretty slick app thus far. face2face is a location-aware smartphone app that solves the problems of privacy and safety that have become synonymous with social networking – so that more people can benefit from the advantages that come from knowing which friends are nearby. I probably won’t enable any of the location aware aspects of face2face, and I will probably keep using a dedicated Twitter client on my device, however, face2face could be a candidate to replace Facebook for BlackBerry and LinkedIn for BlackBerry. I can’t say for sure just yet, however, I am impressed with speed and the interface of the app and if it allows me to effectively git rid of Facebook which is slow, and replace LinkedIn which is large, face2face, my find a permanent home on my BlackBerry Storm 9530 which is memory starved
A BlackBerry Forums member , while poking around Facebook security settings on their PC, came across a setting for Facebook for BlackBerry Smartphones which enables you to login to Facebook Chat . We aren’t sure how long that setting has been their, however, we are sure that it hasn’t always been there. Facebook for BlackBerry Smartphones 1.8 is currently in closed beta. We haven’t heard Facebook Chat being part of the beta, however, we wonder if maybe Facebook Chat will be added to 1.8 before it is officially released.
I was listening to the Tech News Today podcast and at the 25 minute mark of episode 14 they said something about RIM that almost made me fall over. Before I get into the story let me set the back drop. Back in June 2009 RIM acquired a company called Dash Navigation . Dash had one great feature… The ability to update traffic patterns based on information aggregated from all Dash Navigation devices. As you were driving the Dash navigation unit would report back your traffic speed and GPS location allowing other Dash users to get real-time traffic information based on info from all other Dash users.
Can you believe that we’ve recorded our 19th episode of the Simple Mobile Review Podcast ? This week we talk a lot about Google and Android. Is the Nexus One direct model working? Facebook to launch location based check-in services. How will this affect Foursquare and Gowalla. Android overtakes the iPhone for number two smartphone OS. Apple rationalizes why this isn’t the case.
We have all had that bad day where we run our mobile phone battery deep into the red zone. It is pretty much inevitable that you will get an important call right right before you recharge it, usually while on your way back to power. It is at this moment you witness the final exhausted effort of your battery before violently powers your phone off and puts you into a panic wondering how quickly you can resume the call. On my BlackBerry Storm I have had the battery die on many occasions… call it failure to plan or a bad set of events.
At WES2010 last week, RIM put out a video of developers from various companies talking about “Super Apps”. From the sounds of it, Super Apps are pretty cool BlackBerry applications. What would be even cooler is if a few BlackBerry Super Apps were actually developed. RIM CEO, Mike Lazaridis says that Facebook and Myspace for BlackBerry are “Super Apps” . I’ve seen them both of them, and, quite honestly, there is nothing super about either of them less maybe the number of times that they’ve been downloaded.
Location based social network Loopt has recently updated their BlackBerry client to include LooptPulse which brings Foursquare like check-in capability that allows you to leave tips and share information with others.
