Foursquare for BlackBerry has been updated to version 1.5. There still isn’t any love for BlackBerry Storm users, however, you can get 1.5 to work (sort of) if you disable compatibility mode. If you aren’t on a Storm, or Storm2, version 1.5 adds the ability to add friends and tips. You can download Foursquare for BlackBerry by visiting http://foursquare.com/blackberry/beta from your devices BlackBerry Browser.

I was just taking a look at numbers published by mobile analytics firm, Distimo , that outlines Research in Motion’s abysmal performance when it comes to BlackBerry applications as compared to their competitors. The best way to describe the number of applications in BlackBerry App World is to call it a complete and utter embarrassment … I would even go as far to say that if RIM doesn’t address application support and development on the BlackBerry in a big way this year, you will begin to see the BlackBerry’s gains in total market share begin to turn into losses, especially here in the United States.

One of our favorite BlackBerry applications, Poynt , has been updated to version 1.5.3.14. From what we can tell, version 1.5.3.14 appears to be a bug fix, as there doesn’t appear to be any new functionality or features.

One of the big complaints about the BlackBerry when compared to other smartphones is that a lot of the applications that run on the BlackBerry seem outdated and less sophisticated when compared those that run on devices like the iPhone and those running WebOS or Android. To make a long story short, the complaints are fairly valid and much of the issue is because of the way that the BlackBerry utilizes memory.

Tvider is a free service that allows you to share pictures, video, and audio on Twitter. I had not heard of Tvider before today, however, it caught my attention because they offer a Tvider BlackBerry application compatible with pretty much every BlackBerry to come out since the BlackBerry Pearl. Tvider, unfortunately, isn’t available for the BlackBerry Storm or Storm2, however, you wouldn’t know it from the official images on the Tvider Mobile page. One can only assume that a Tvider BlackBerry app is coming out for Touchscreen devices seeing how the application prominently displayed running on a BlackBerry Storm.

I believe that many BlackBerry users are eagerly anticipating the new WebKit based BlackBerry browser to that is supposed to be on par with, if not better than, mobile browsers currently found on devices like those running Android, Web OS, and even the iPhone OS. The BlackBerry Browser, however, isn’t the only thing RIM is looking at to improve your web browsing experience on the BlackBerry. A new patent application recently filed by Research in Motion aims to speed up communication between the web and your web browser by installing a proxy server of sorts directly on your device.

You’ve probably heard by now that the BlackBerry outage most everyone experienced yesterday was caused by the last two releases of BlackBerry Messenger, versions 5.0.0.55 and 5.0.0.56. RIM is asking via their official BlackBerry Help Twitter account that everyone update BlackBerry Messenger on their devices to version 5.0.0.57, which was released just yesterday
